What is The Human Papilloma Virus Infection – Causes and Symptoms
The sexual virus known as human papilloma virus is the most common STD in the world, also known as HPV, it is contracted through sexual intercourse. The virus itself is part of a bigger family called the papilloma virus family. Not all of them are serious and not all of them are sexual diseases, such as the common cold sore. However, some are aggressive and have been linked to certain types of cancer. Currently there is no known cure for HPV. Though individuals can go indefinitely without it flaring up.
The virus itself, is spread through the principal acts of vaginal, anal and oral sex with an infected person. HPV can remain invisible to others and one self for weeks months and years, so there is no easy way of telling if someone is a carrier. One should always use contraception when one is not sure. This includes contraception for oral sex, since the virus can spread to the throat.
HPV symptoms will often manifest as small or large swollen lumps or bumps around the genital region, as well as the anus area. They can form together in clumps that appear cauliflower like. These growths and bumps are commonly known as Genital Warts and can lay dorment for months at a time before errupting.
Unfortunately, there is no current way of testing males to see if they have HPV, tests are carried out on females by sampling cervical cells.
It is doubly important for woment to known if they have hpv, since some particular strains have been linked to certain types of cervical cancers. Getting tested sooner rather than later can be a descision you might be thankful for in future.
Because of the invisible nature of genital warts, one should be vigilant against unprotected sex with many partners. This may sound old fashioned in todays fast paced hedonistic lifestlye but the more partners you have the more your chances of comming into contact with an infected person. Throw alcohol into the equation and your common sense goes out the window. Is it any wonder it is the number one sexually transmitted disease in the world.
One other thing people often do not take into account, is that picking up partners for instant sexual relations and one night stands in bars and clubs. Is that, these are the sort of people who are more than willing to do this and will have predominantly mixed with other people just like them. The probability of comming into contact with hpv is much higher, when you gravitate around the more promiscious element of society. This doesn’t mean you should only look for partners at church or in the local library but you get the idea.
Remember, most Types Of Hpv are virtually harmless and your body will usually fight off infection without you ever seeing visible signs of it on your body.
